Multimedia Processor * The DSP is a Chromatic Research MPact2 (M3600) - co-developed by Chromatic, LG, ST Micro and Toshiba it was introduced in the late 90's as a so called multimedia processor (in fact it's a programmable processor that can handle graphics and DSP functions) to enable 3D acceleration, smooth DVD decoding and modem functions for example on 166MHz desktop computers, cost effective media center PCs, or set-top boxes. The MPact development suspended in 1998, MPact3 was never introduced. The same year ATI aquired Chromatic Research and immediately stopped further development, support, and research on the MPact design, so: R.I.P. * 2048 x 1536 * (999KB)
